NLRC3 negatively regulates Pasteurella multocida-induced NF-KB signaling in rabbits

Mengjiao Guo, Jiaqi Zhang, Mingtao Li, Xiaorong Zhang, Yantao Wu

Summary: rNLRC3 negatively regulates the NF -KB signaling pathway induced by P. multocida in rabbits by inhibiting the activation of NF -KB, reducing the expression of inflammatory cytokines, and interacting with rTRAF4 and rTRAF6. The NACHT-LRR domain is the functional domain of rNLRC3. These findings provide insights into the important role of rNLRC3 in combating P. multocida infection.

Impaired efficacy of fenbendazole and ivermectin against intestinal nematodes in adult horses in Iran

Mohammad Ashrafzadeh-Shiraz, Mousa Tavassoli, Bahram Dalir-Naghadeh, Alireza Sazmand

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy of fenbendazole and ivermectin on strongyles and Parascaris sp. infecting adult riding horses in different regions of Iran. The results demonstrated varying degrees of resistance of these parasites to both anthelminthics. It emphasizes the urgency of educating horse owners about the importance of a test-and-treatment strategy and suggests evaluating the efficacy of different anthelminthics to choose the most effective treatment in each region.

Thermography Diagnosis of Medial Patellar Ligament Rupture in a Horse

Elif Dogan, Omer Deniz, Ayse Basak Dellalbasi

Summary: This report evaluated thermography as a portable diagnostic tool for medial patellar ligament tears in horses, in addition to ultrasonography. Thermography revealed difficulties in the medial patellar ligament's absorption of quadriceps forces and elevated temperatures on the cranial surface of the stifle joint at rest. Load sharing occurred between the joint surfaces and quadriceps muscle at the end of training. Thermography captured temperature changes that may indicate the severity of the injury and aid clinicians in suspecting ligament tears without access to ultrasonography.

Prevalence and risk factors for hair loss in outdoor-wintered beef cattle under cold weather conditions

Wonhee Cha, Katinca Fungbrant, Giulio Grandi, Ylva Persson

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and development of hair loss in outdoor cattle in Sweden. It found a relatively high hair loss rate, with the occurrence of hair loss increasing over time during winters, suggesting a contagious etiology. The study also identified preventative delousing before November, keeping animals clean, and maintaining small group sizes as effective measures to reduce the risk of hair loss, while older age and access to bedding materials increased the risk.

Plasma disposition and faecal excretion of eprinomectin following subcutaneous administration in Saanen and Alpine goats

Zeynep Ozdemir Kutahya, Busra Aslan Akyol, Kubra Deliklitas, Cengiz Gokbulut

Summary: In this study, the pharmacokinetic behavior of Eprinomectin was studied in two different goat breeds. The results showed no significant differences in plasma concentration between the breeds, but the clearance from the body may vary. High concentration of Eprinomectin in feces is beneficial against gastrointestinal parasites but poses an ecotoxicological risk to the environment.

Allometry and Atlas Shape Analysis Between Tekir and Mix-breed Cats

Ozkan Ermis, Burak Unal, Yusuf Altundag, Zihni Mutlu, Kozet Avanus

Summary: This study aimed to examine the shape variation of the atlas in cats and reveal shape changes related to variation in size using geometric morphometry. Results showed that Tekir cats exhibited more shape variation than mix-breed cats, with mix-breed cats having a larger ala atlantis and deeper incisura alaris. The foramen vertebrale laterale was more medial in shape for males compared to females. However, the allometry results were statistically insignificant. This study provides important insights for future research on cat atlas bones.

V. Sharma, P. Kaur, R. S. Aulakh, R. Sharma, R. Verma, B. B. Singh

Summary: Brucellosis is a neglected zoonosis that affects animals and people in the underdeveloped world. This study aimed to isolate and identify Brucella species from faeces of sero positive cattle in Punjab, India. Fourteen Brucella species were isolated, with 11 identified as Brucella abortus and 3 identified as Brucella melitensis. The study highlights the potential risk of animal faeces for animal and human health and emphasizes the need for careful handling of faeces from seropositive cattle.
