Serum proteomic analysis in esophagectomy patients with postoperative delirium: A case-control study

Summary: This study aimed to identify protein pathways associated with delirium post-esophagectomy. The findings revealed that coagulation factor IX and mannosyl-oligosaccharide 1,2-alpha-mannosidase were associated with delirium, while complement C2 and mannosyl-oligosaccharide 1,2-alpha-mannosidase were associated with delirium severity.

Efficacy and safety of fluticasone propionate/salmeterol and fluticasone propionate monotherapy in step-up treatment of childhood asthma: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Summary: Fluticasone propionate and salmeterol (FSC) are viable options for step-up treatment in asthmatic children, as they can reduce the incidence of asthma exacerbations and improve lung function. FSC treatment for more than 12 weeks shows a greater likelihood of reducing asthma exacerbations and decreasing the use of albuterol. There were no significant differences in drug-related adverse events between FSC and fluticasone propionate (FP) alone.

Summary: This study investigated the construct of psychosocial adjustment and the role of social support in patients with durable VAD support. The results showed that the majority of the participants reported high levels of perceived social support and good psychosocial adjustment. Higher levels of perceived social support were associated with lower levels of anxiety and depression, and higher levels of quality of life.

Summary: The use of sedative and analgesic medications during non-invasive ventilation can reduce the risk of tracheal intubation and delirium in patients with acute respiratory failure. Summary: This study investigated the components of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) reflected in the assessment instruments used in cardiac rehabilitation for individuals with heart failure (HF). The results showed that body function was the most frequently detected component, but none of the instruments covered all aspects of the ICF. The Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire (MLHFQ) demonstrated the most comprehensive coverage of ICF components.

Effects of body postures on respiratory muscle force and coughing in healthy people

Physiological responses during static apnoea efforts in elite and novice breath-hold divers before and after two weeks of dry apnoea training

Summary: This study examined the effects of breath-hold training on the performance of novice and elite breath-hold divers. The results showed that breath-hold training significantly improved red blood cell concentration, hemoglobin oxygen saturation steady state duration, and breath-hold time in novice divers. Elite divers had better breath-hold performance and higher peak mean arterial pressure compared to novices. The study suggests that breath-hold training can enhance the performance of divers.

Insights into exercise-induced rhinitis based on nasal aerodynamics induced by airway morphology

Summary: This study aimed to characterize the response of different nasal morphologies to airflow-related variables during rapid/deep inspiration. The results showed that notched nasal vestibules had higher resistance values and airflow velocities, while standard nasal vestibules had higher mucosal heat flux. Different nasal phenotypes may predispose individuals to exercise-induced rhinitis.

Cough and swallow after laparotomy in anesthetized cats

Summary: An animal model study evaluated the effects of an abdominal incision on cough and swallow, revealing that abdominal wall manipulations can increase pharyngeal muscle activity during swallow without affecting the cough reflex. Swallowing tended to occur more during the inspiratory phase. The results highlight the important role of abdominal wall sensory feedback in regulating swallow motor patterns.

Concordance between transbronchial lung cryobiopsy and surgical lung biopsy in patients with idiopathic multicentric Castleman disease: A report of four cases

The results showed that TBLC was able to evaluate the extent of lung lesions, inflammatory cell infiltration, and the presence of lymphoid follicles in iMCD patients.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the clinicopathological differences and therapeutic response of NSCLC patients with SDC4::ROS1 fusion to crizotinib. The study found that different ROS1 fusion partners may affect the efficacy of crizotinib and patient prognosis. In addition, higher expression levels of ROS1 and pERK1/2 in tumor cells of case 2 may be related to the therapeutic response and prognosis.

Outcomes of patients with elevated pulmonary artery systolic pressure on echocardiography due to chronic lung diseases

Summary: Pulmonary hypertension is associated with increased mortality, and echocardiographic findings of elevated PASP may be a prognostic factor for 1-year mortality in patients with chronic lung diseases. Patients with elevated PASP, 1-year hospital readmission, and underlying interstitial lung disease or bronchiectasis have increased odds of 1-year mortality.
