Recent advances in 3D-printed polylactide and polycaprolactone-based biomaterials for tissue engineering applications

Summary: This article systematically summarizes the recent advancements in PLA and PCL biodegradable polymer-based composites manufactured through 3DP, as well as their applications in bone, cardiac, neural, vascularized and skin tissue regeneration. The interaction between implanted polymers and evaluation methods are also illustrated. The final section discusses the current challenges and future opportunities in 3DP of PCL and PLA-based composites for biomedical engineering.

Freeze/thawed polyvinyl alcohol hydrogels: Present, past and future

Summary: A comprehensive review of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogels prepared by the freezing/thawing (F-T) process is presented. We discuss their preparation, gelation mechanisms, handling of physical/mechanical properties, physicochemical characteristics, and various applications. PVA hydrogels have the advantages of easy customization and biocompatibility, making them suitable for diverse applications in the medical field and sensor technology.

Closed-Loop Recyclable Fully Bio-Based Epoxy Vitrimers from Ferulic Acid-Derived Hyperbranched Epoxy Resin

Summary: This study synthesized a ferulic acid-based hyperbranched epoxy resin (FEHBP) to produce closed-loop recyclable and catalyst-free epoxy vitrimers with improved mechanical performance. The incorporation of FEHBP enhanced the tensile strength and toughness of the epoxy vitrimers through an in situ reinforcing and toughening mechanism. The hydroxyls of FEHBP catalyzed the dynamic transesterification and accelerated the reprocessing of epoxy vitrimers.

Carboxymethyl chitosan-based hydrogels containing fibroblast growth factors for triggering diabetic wound healing

Summary: The BP/CS-bFGF hydrogel dressing prepared in this study shows great potential for diabetic chronic wound management. It has strong wet-tissue adhesion, self-mending, and antibacterial properties, and displays fast hemostasis capacity. The hydrogel dressing significantly accelerates full-thickness diabetic wound repair by increasing the production of Ki67, promoting the generation of epithelialization and collagen, inducing the formation of hair follicles, and enhancing neovascularization.
