'Speaking with the voices of the dead': Sean Bonney, Amiri Baraka, Arthur Rimbaud and revolutionary poetics

Robert Hampson

Summary: This essay examines Sean Bonney's work from 2008 to 2014, with a focus on his PhD thesis on Amiri Baraka, as well as the publications Baudelaire in English and Letters Against the Firmament. It explores the tensions between aesthetic and political commitment in Baraka's work during the 1960s and relates it to Bonney's own exploration of revolutionary poetics during that time period.

Que ignores mi idioma no me espanto. The Sonnet in Spanish in Bian zhengjiao zhenchuan shilu or Apologia de laVerdadera Religion (1593) by Fray Juan Cobo

Juan Pablo Gil-Osle, Rachel Junlei Zhang

Summary: The handwritten sonnet added in "Testimony of the True Religion Shih-lu" (Manila, 1593) by Dominican Fray Juan Cobo has not been studied in the context of Sino-Spanish books published in the Philippines. In the only surviving copy, there are several misunderstandings due to the inability of owners and users to read the book for centuries. The autographed and anonymous sonnet accurately reflects this situation.
