Summary: In this study, an absolutely-dated and high-resolution calcite 818O record from Shima Cave, China was analyzed to determine the timing and duration of the Heinrich Stadial 2 (HS2) event. The results show that the HS2a phase started at -24.4 +/- 0.1 ka BP and ended at -23.6 +/- 0.1 ka BP, lasting approximately 0.8 +/- 0.3 ka. The study also reveals similarities between Chinese cave records and marine sediment cores, particularly in terms of the two-fold structure observed during the HS2a and HS2b phases, which may be related to weakening episodes in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation.

Summary: This study reviewed the available data on the distribution of Middle-early Late Ordovician trilobites in South China and analyzed their diversity dynamics. The results revealed three macroevolutionary phases and three faunal turnovers. Changes in sea level and substrate conditions played a significant role in the faunal replacements. The radiation of trilobites was primarily influenced by the development and expansion of the Whiterock Fauna, with a shift towards outer platform environments over time. Climate cooling, substrate conditions, and increased oxygen levels and nutrients likely provided favorable conditions for trilobite radiation during the Middle Ordovician.

Summary: Through sediment records from Lake Nanyi in the lower Yangtze, we found that anthropogenic fire activity played a dominant role in the region, and the temporal pattern of fire activity was asynchronous from east to west. Archaeological evidence suggests an inverse relationship between agricultural and population levels and fire intensity during the mid-Holocene, with fire intensity being influenced by the diversity of landscape types associated with pre-historic subsistence patterns. Overall, changes in regional water-level delayed the transition from hunting-gathering to agriculture in the lower Yangtze region.

Summary: The relationships between woody vegetation cover and fire, climate, herbivory, and human activities in African savanna ecosystems are complex. Fire suppression policies implemented in a national park in northeast Namibia from 1888 to 2005 did not lead to noticeable decreases in fire or enhanced tree recruitment, suggesting that fire occurrence in savanna ecosystems is more closely linked to climate than management. Fire management should adapt to rainfall variability and integrate customs of early dry season burning.
