Rob van de Schoor

Summary: Schultze and Muller were famous cartoon figures in the satirical magazine Kladde-radatsch who criticized German society and politics. Dutch satirical magazines imitated Kladderadatsch, with Uilenspiegel featuring Kwik and Kwak engaging in similar dialogues, and Humoristisch Album publishing the travel story of Koen Verklat. The Dutch imitations can be studied as cases of Kulturtransfer and using the concept of scenography can refine the methodology. Imagology is needed to understand Dutch reactions to the negative depiction of the Netherlands and its inhabitants in the booklet Schultze und Muller in Holland.
