Summary: This study developed a high-performance gas sensor for formaldehyde detection by modifying ZnSnO3 with ZnO QDs and SnO2 QDs. The modified sensor showed improved sensing response and lower working temperature. The presence of ZnO QDs formed rich heterojunctions, increased surface area, and provided oxygen deficiency for formaldehyde sensing reaction, thus enhancing the sensor performance. This research provides an alternative method to enhance the sensing properties of MOS by QDs modification.

Summary: An optical hydrogen peroxide sensor based on catalytic degradation and the detection of produced oxygen is presented. The sensor offers higher resolution and better sensitivity at lower H2O2 concentrations. By removing O2 from the sample solution, a more sensitive O2 sensor can be used for measurement. The sensor has been successfully applied in a flow-through cell to measure H2O2 concentration in different flow rates.

Summary: Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are important biomarkers for disease diagnosis and prognosis. However, detecting SNPs with high specificity and sensitivity for DNA with single-base difference is challenging. This study proposes a strategy for ultrasensitive SNP detection using flap endonuclease 1 (FEN 1) manipulated semi-DNA walker reaction and catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA)-FRET loop. The strategy demonstrated superior performance for ultrasensitive detection of mutant KRAS gene and could be applied to monitor gene expression in cancer cells.

Summary: In this study, a intensity-based SPR sensor using NIR-OPD was introduced for rapid and accurate detection of H5N1 avian influenza virus. The sensor exhibited high sensitivity with a detection limit of 4.3 x 104 copies/mL, which was 37 times higher than a commercial lateral flow test kit. The integration of NIR-OPD into the sensor provided advantages in compactness and cost-effectiveness, making it a promising tool for on-site detection of H5N1 AIV.

Summary: In this study, quantum dots (QDs)-sensitized few-layer Ti3C2Tx was successfully applied to NO2 sensing, showing a strong response, ideal selectivity, and a low detection limit. A novel dynamic gas-sensing mechanism was proposed to explain the enhancement of sensing performance by sensitization mechanisms. These findings not only demonstrate the potential of MXene in sensing applications, but also provide a theoretical perspective for designing trace-level NO2 sensors.

Summary: In this study, boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) decorated PtO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were used to form a heterojunction for enhancing the room temperature gas sensing towards dry NH3 gas. The integration of PtO2 NPs onto BNNTs provides a synergistic effect, enabling enhanced NH3 sensing capabilities with low detection limit and short response time, as well as good resistance against humidity and long-term stability.

Summary: This study presents a novel concentric gradient nanoplasmonic sensor for sensitive and label-free quantification of tumor-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs). By functionalizing the sensor with smaller aptamers, a more sensitive area is reserved for EV surface proteins, enabling the dynamic binding of EVs. The sensor exhibits high sensitivity in detecting EV binding and shows great potential for diagnosing cancer patients.

Summary: Due to technical issues with bottom intake racks, porous intakes made of rock, gravel, or sand can be a viable alternative. This study used an experimental model to assess the performance of porous bottom intakes (PBI) and examined the impacts of various parameters such as channel slope, grain size distribution of the porous media, intake structure geometry, and water depth in the channel on diverted flow rates during sediment-free flow. The study also compared the performance of one-sided and three-sided PBI models under the same conditions. The findings suggest that a slope of 1% yields higher discharge coefficient and diverted flow compared to a slope of 1.68%, and three-sided PBI models outperform one-sided models in terms of flow rate. A formula utilizing nonlinear multivariate regression, experimental data, and dimensional analysis was proposed for calculating the discharge coefficient of PBI, with a high accuracy rate of over 95%.
