Towards advancing theory and methods on tourism development from residents' perspectives: Developing a framework on the pathway to impact

Hossein G. T. Olya

Summary: This study argues that the combination of method and theory is essential for generating impactful outcomes. It contributes to the current body of knowledge on tourism development from residents' perspective through three aspects: testing a predictive model of support for tourism development using multiple analytical approaches, providing critical discussions on research methods, presenting a classification of theories on residents' support of tourism. Additionally, it fills the research gap by developing a logical model to illustrate the 'pathway to impact' of residents' support for sustainable tourism development using the theory of change.

Tourists' Attitudes toward the Use of Artificially Intelligent (AI) Devices in Tourism Service Delivery: Moderating Role of Service Value Seeking

Oscar Hengxuan Chi, Dogan Gursoy, Christina G. Chi

Summary: This study examines tourists' attitudes toward the use of artificially intelligent devices in utilitarian and hedonic tourism services. The findings suggest that tourists' acceptance of AI devices in both service contexts is influenced by social influence, hedonic motivation, anthropomorphism, performance and effort expectancy, and emotions. Furthermore, social influence is a stronger determinant in hospitality services compared to airline services, and tourists have higher performance expectancy from AI devices used in airline services compared to hospitality services. The results suggest that while the use of AI devices for functional services is acceptable, it may backfire in the delivery of hedonic services.
