Summary: This study examines the relationship between depressive symptoms, sleep duration, and cognitive performance among older adults. The results suggest that early depressive symptoms are associated with increased depressive symptoms, shortened sleep duration, and worsened cognition. Sleep duration and depression progression mediate the relationship between early depressive symptoms and cognitive performance.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the predictive value of pre-stroke impairment of activities of daily living (ADL) for ADL decline after stroke. The results showed that pre-stroke ADL measured by the Barthel Index (BI) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) scale did not predict post-stroke ADL decline in community dwelling older subjects with known vascular risk factors.

Summary: This study used a cohort of community-dwelling adults to establish the 10-year incidence and predictors of dizziness/vertigo, and its impacts on health-related quality of life. The results showed that age and presence of migraine were significant predictors of incident dizziness/vertigo, and dizziness/vertigo was associated with a significant decrease in quality of life.

Summary: This study explores the characteristics and capabilities of nursing home residents with urinary incontinence in relation to urinary incontinence interventions. Results reveal that the level of care dependency for hygiene, the ability to adopt an appropriate body posture, being urinary incontinence prior to admission into a nursing home, and being diagnosed with dementia are significant predictors of the use of urinary incontinence interventions.

Summary: Cutaneous metastases are rare and indicate a poor prognosis. Early identification and diagnosis are crucial, as they can greatly impact clinical outcomes. Clinicians and pathologists should consider cutaneous metastasis if patients have a history of cancer or present with nodules or atypical dermal infiltrates on histopathology.

Summary: The evidence for age-related effects on wound healing is mostly based on empirical observations without adjusting for confounding factors. Skin structure changes with aging, but the impact on unexposed skin seems to be minimal. The clinical impact of these changes on acute wound healing appears to be small compared to other factors. Poor healing of chronic wounds, mainly observed in older populations, is often attributed to comorbid conditions rather than age alone.

Summary: The study found that dual decline in gait speed and cognition is associated with a higher risk of late-life dementia, particularly in older Japanese men. These findings highlight the importance of early screening for dual decline.

Summary: By validating the KWGS guideline in older Korean adults, this study found that different phenotypes of sarcopenia were associated with increased frailty and higher risks of institutionalization and mortality. Functional sarcopenia demonstrated comparable prognosis with sarcopenia (not severe) and was linked to greater frailty.

Summary: Due to COVID-19, digitally delivered exercise classes have become widely used as an alternative to in-person activities. This study examined the feasibility, acceptability, and participant engagement variables of delivering Qi Gong and Tai Chi programs through telehealth interventions. The findings highlight the importance of digital literacy for both participants and providers, and individual perceived relevance for sustained program engagement. Online social involvement was found to facilitate participant acceptability and engagement. Overall, participants expressed satisfaction with telehealth, while providers had concerns about the quality of care.

Summary: The study examines the relationship between prior-year symptom burden and later-year falls and fall-related outcomes among community-dwelling older adults. The results show that symptom burden is associated with an increased risk of falls, fear of falling, and limitations in daily activities due to fear of falling. Additionally, demographic factors such as age, race/ethnicity, education, and living arrangement moderate the effects of symptom burden on falls and fall-related outcomes.

Summary: This study investigated the preparedness of medical interns in dealing with older in-patients through an online survey. The results showed that most interns felt moderately prepared in managing older patients, but they generally felt confident in managing the last older patient they encountered. There were variations in the self-assessed preparedness for different aspects of aged care, and 'real-life experience on the wards' was considered the favored teaching tool. Identifying these gaps in self-assessment will provide valuable insights for teaching aged care to medical students and junior doctors.

Summary: This study investigated the association between household physical activity and subjective well-being in older adults in four East Asian societies. The findings suggest that household physical activity has positive effects on older adults' health and marital satisfaction. It is recommended for older married couples to increase their household physical activity to maintain marital satisfaction.
