Summary: The paper examines the vibrational and critical circular speed characteristics of a functionally graded rotary microdisk using the modified couple stress model, for the first time in the literature. The study utilizes the GDQ approach and variational method to derive and solve non-classical relations, and conducts a parametric analysis to explore the influences of various factors on the frequency of the micro-scaled disk. The results reveal significant effects from the rotation speed, beta factor, and radius ratio on the dynamic stability and frequency responses of the rotary FG microdisk.

Summary: In this study, the characteristics of propagated waves in a sandwich structure with a soft core and multi-hybrid nanocomposite face sheets were investigated. The study found that the sensitivity of the phase velocity of the sandwich panel to carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and different face sheet patterns can decrease when the core of the panel is thicker. It was also observed that the effects of fiber angle and core to total thickness ratio on the phase velocity are independent of the wavenumber.

Summary: The research focuses on the vibrational and amplitude behaviors of a sandwich spinning disk with a graphene nanoplatelets reinforced composite core. High-order shear deformable theory is used to calculate stresses and strains, and a computational method called generalized differential quadrature method is employed to solve the structure's boundary conditions. Matlab programming is used to explain the disk's vibrations, while ABAQUS software is used for 3-D finite element simulations. The frequency response of the system is found to be better in smaller radius ratios.

Summary: Nowadays, optimization algorithms inspired by the natural behavior of agents, such as humans, animals, or plants, have become popular in solving various scientific problems. The wild horse optimizer algorithm is inspired by the social behavior of wild horses, particularly their decency behavior where foals leave groups to prevent mating with relatives. The proposed algorithm has shown competitive results compared to other optimization methods in testing.

Summary: The study explores the deformation and removal mechanisms of gallium nitride (GaN) single crystals during ultra-precision machining. The experimental results show that abrasive size significantly affects the surface morphology and roughness, leading to a transition from brittle fracture-dominated surface to a plastic surface with reduced abrasive size. Through cross-sectional TEM method and MD simulation, it is found that plastic deformation in GaN crystals is caused by the formation of polycrystalline nanocrystals and defects, with an observable delamination phenomenon in the plastic deformation zone.

Summary: This study investigates the buckling response of functionally graded sandwich plates on a viscoelastic foundation under hygrothermal conditions using higher-order shear deformation theory. An accurate solution is developed and a parametric study is conducted on the effect of damping coefficient, aspect ratio, moisture condition, power-law index, and temperature variation on the buckling temperature.

Summary: This research investigates amplitude motion and frequency simulation of a thick annular microsystem with graphene nanoplatelets reinforcement using the modified couple stress theory (MCST). The Halpin-Tsai micromechanics model is employed to model the effective Young module, and the generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) is used to obtain eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the microsystem. Results show that under certain conditions, the influence of length scale parameter on the amplitude and frequency of the microsystem can be ignored, and increasing the thickness of the graphene nanoplatelets decreases this influence on frequency.
