The perspectives of professional caregivers on quality of life of persons with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities: a qualitative study

Summary: This article explores the perspectives of professional caregivers on the Quality of Life (QoL) of persons with Profound Intellectual and Multiple Disabilities (PIMD). Professional caregivers mostly describe good QoL in emotional terms such as happiness and pleasure, while poor QoL is described in physical terms such as pain and sickness. They assess QoL through sensing, testing, and discussing with colleagues, emphasizing the dependency of PIMD individuals on caregivers. The relationship between QoL of PIMD individuals and professional caregivers requires further investigation.

The diagnosis of ASD using multiple machine learning techniques

Summary: This study aims to automate the Autism diagnostic tool using various machine learning techniques on a dataset of 701 samples and 10 fields, considering scenarios with and without missing values. In the ideal scenario without missing values, ANN, SVM, and RF classifiers are trained and tested, with the introduction of the RFE feature selection algorithm. In the real-world scenario with missing values, different algorithms are used to handle the data, generating 12 classification models which are evaluated and suggested for ASD Diagnosis based on specific missing values.

Challenging Behaviors Online Modules for Parents of Young Children with Disabilities: A Pilot Feasibility Study

Summary: Challenging behaviors exhibited by young children have a negative impact on their development and hinder their access to appropriate education. Many parents are unable to access parent training due to time and resource constraints. To address this issue, we developed online training modules and piloted them with parents of children with disabilities. The parents reported satisfaction with the content and delivery method of the intervention.

Influencing factors of Chinese special education teacher turnover intention: understanding the roles of subject well-being, social support, and work engagement

Summary: This study investigated the level of turnover intentions among special education teachers in mainland China and explored the factors influencing their turnover intention. The results found that gender and years of teaching influenced turnover intention, with female teachers and teachers with more years of teaching having lower turnover intentions. Additionally, subject well-being and social support were negatively related to turnover intention, mediated by work engagement.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication for Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disability: A Mega-Review of the Literature

Rigorous Assessment of Social Validity: A Scoping Review of a 40-Year Conversation

Summary: Over the past 40 years, researchers in special education and applied behavior analysis have been discussing the concept of social validity, particularly focusing on critiquing the rigor of methods used for assessment. Through a scoping literature review, a framework of seven Key Questions has been developed to guide rigorous social validity assessment in intervention research, which may have practical utility for researchers and reviewers. This framework organizes critiques across theoretical and methodological dimensions and discusses implications for researchers, reviewers, and journal editors.

A Survey of Educators Serving Students With Emotional and Behavioral Disorders During the Covid-19 Pandemic

Summary: This descriptive study analyzed survey data on communication, instruction, and assessment strategies used by school personnel in K-12 settings during the COVID-19 pandemic for students with emotional and behavioral disorders. Results show that support personnel serving students with EBD used a variety of strategies, with special educators using significantly different strategies compared to related service providers. Implications for future planning, policy, and research are discussed.

How parents of children with autism spectrum disorder experience the COVID-19 pandemic: Perspectives and insights on the new normal

Summary: This study aims to reveal the perceptions of parents with children who have autism spectrum disorder of the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey and their experiences of the difficulties during the pandemic. The analysis results showed that parents' perspectives shifted from positive to negative during the pandemic, and they talked mostly about the increasing roles and responsibilities of parents, the deep impact on their mental health, and the problems experienced in distance education.

The Impact of Teacher Attributes on Intentions to Practice Inclusive Education in Secondary Schools in Ghana

Summary: This study explores demographic variables that impact teachers' intentions to practice inclusive education in secondary schools in Ghana. The findings suggest that teachers in private schools have more positive attitudes, feel more supported, have higher self-efficacy, and are more willing to include children with disabilities in their classrooms compared to teachers in public schools.

The Impact of Real-Time Feedback and Video Analysis on Early Childhood Teachers' Practice

Summary: In this study, we used a multiple-probe single-case research design to investigate the impact of a professional development package on three preschool teachers' naturalistic instruction targeting children's communication. The results showed that the package effectively improved teachers' use of naturalistic instruction, and children responded positively while teachers enhanced the quality of their instruction.

Usage of digital media by people with intellectual disabilities: Contrasting individuals' and formal caregivers' perspectives

A Systematic Review of Research Comparing Mobile Technology Speech-Generating Devices to Other AAC Modes with Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder
