Lower extremity characteristics and postural alignment in young pre-professional dancers

Summary: This study aims to comprehensively assess the functional and structural characteristics of the lower extremities in first-grade dance conservatory students. The study found that over 60% of the students had discrepancies in lower extremity length and asymmetry in passive hip internal rotation and external rotation. Additionally, signs of increased pronation, postural asymmetry, and scoliosis were observed in some students.

The effects of dance movement therapy for children with Autism spectrum disorder

Summary: This study examines the effects of Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) on children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) from the perspective of therapists. The results show that DMT has the potential to improve the physical, social, and emotional domains of children with ASD, with mood management, overall wellbeing, socialization, and communication being the most improved outcomes.

The effects of strength and balance exercises on the center of pressure and plantar pressure distribution in adolescent ballet dancers

Developing awareness of self and surrounding through SAMYA module of Dance and movement Therapy (DMT) for children with Autism Spectrum disorder (ASD)

Summary: This case report investigated the use of Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) as an early intervention tool for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through the specific module of SAMYA Module. The study found that the DMT sessions using SAMYA proved to be beneficial for creating awareness regarding space. The research used qualitative and quantitative methods to assess the intervention and found that random walk in the DMT process was significant in inducing social awareness and developing interpersonal relationships.

Competitive dancers' social identities and experiences of harm

Summary: The purpose of this research was to investigate the experiences of harm in the dance environment among competitive dancers, focusing on their social identities. Limited attention has been given to instances of harm in competitive dance, and the influence of social identities on these experiences has yet to be discussed. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 24 competitive dancers, and thematic analysis revealed four themes: the higher value of boy dancers, Whiteness as the standard, the impact of socioeconomic status, and the sexualization of young girls and women. Competitive dancers reported that their social identities influenced their dance experience, affecting their opportunities to be showcased in choreography and their relationship with instructors.
