Does Statin Use in Frail Patients Provide Survival Benefits? Insights From a Meta-Analysis

Avilash Mondal, Aobo Li, Samuel Edusa, Anurag Gogineni, Siddharth Karipineni, Salma Abdelhafez, Santosh Dheeraj Nalluri, Gautham Gosh Meka, Jerrin Bawa, Srikanth Puli, Vikramaditya Samala Venkata, Ankit Vyas, Akhil Jain, Rupak Desai

Summary: This meta-analysis examined the impact of statins on mortality in frail older adults and found that while statins can lower all-cause mortality in the elderly, the association was not significant. Further prospective studies are needed to determine the use of statins among frail older adults for survival benefits.

Healthcare Big Data in Hong Kong: Development and Implementation of Artificial Intelligence-Enhanced Predictive Models for Risk Stratification

Gary Tse, Quinncy Lee, Oscar Hou In Chou, Cheuk To Chung, Sharen Lee, Jeffrey Shi Kai Chan, Guoliang Li, Narinder Kaur, Leonardo Roever, Haipeng Liu, Tong Liu, Jiandong Zhou

Summary: Routinely collected electronic health records (EHRs) data provide valuable information for epidemiological studies, and the use of big data and artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly increased in Hong Kong since 2015. The advantages of big data include generalizability, simultaneous determination of multiple outcomes, ease of cross-validation, analysis of numerous variables, analysis of static and dynamic variables, capturing non-linear and latent interactions, and enhancing prediction models with AI approaches.

Dose-response association between cardiovascular health and mortality in cancer survivors

Ruben Lopez-Bueno, Lin Yang, Joaquin Calatayud, Lars Louis Andersen, Borja del Pozo Cruz

Summary: This study examined the dose-response association between cardiovascular health (CVH) and all-cause, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and cancer mortality among cancer survivors. The findings showed that higher CVH levels were associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality and a curvilinear relationship with CVD deaths. However, no significant association was found between CVH and cancer deaths.

Health-related quality of life in patients with aortic dissection: An unmet need

Andreina Carbone, Raffaele Palladino, Monica Franzese, Rossana Castaldo, Brigida Ranieri, Giulia Crisci, Raffaele Izzo, Giovanni Esposito, Antonio Cittadini, Bibi Schreurs, Roland R. J. van Kimmenade, Eduardo Bossone

Summary: This systematic review investigates the knowledge about HR-QoL after TA-AAD and TB-AAD and reveals that HR-QoL seems adequate in most cases, except for specific domains. In TA-AAD patients, physical and mental well-being domains were lower than controls, while emotional domain was better for patients over 80 years old. Exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation improved HR-QoL in these patients. In TB-AAD, vitality and mental health SF-36 scores improved after TEVAR, and long-term QoL was similar between open surgery group and TEVAR.
