Polyamines modulate mouse sperm motility

Lorena Rodriguez-Paez, Charmina Aguirre-Alvarado, German Chamorro-Cevallos, Alcantara-Farfan Veronica, Calderon-Espinosa Sandra Irel, Castillo-Perez Hugo, Carlos Armando Garcia-Perez, Guadalupe Elizabeth Jimenez-Gutierrez, Joaquin Cordero-Martinez

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of spermine, spermidine, and putrescine on sperm motility, capacitation, and acrosome reaction. The results showed that polyamines significantly decreased these parameters and may act by inhibiting the activity of sAC. Furthermore, polyamines also caused a decrease in cAMP concentration.

MEHP activates JNK to inhibit the migration of human foreskin fibroblasts

Hu Zhang, Xuan Yi, Wei Hu, Guoqiang Zhu, Xiaowen Fu, Wei Jin, Long Qin, Mingyong Li

Summary: This study investigates the impact of MEHP on the proliferation, apoptosis, and migration of HFF-1 cells, as well as the role of the JNK signaling pathway in cell migration. The results show that MEHP exposure leads to increased apoptosis and decreased migration ability in HFF-1 cells, and the activation of the JNK signaling pathway is positively correlated with the concentration of MEHP exposure.

Low XIST expression in Sertoli cells of Klinefelter syndrome patients causes high susceptibility of these cells to an extra X chromosome

Liang-Yu Zhao, Peng Li, Chen-Cheng Yao, Ru-Hui Tian, Yu-Xin Tang, Yu-Zhuo Chen, Zhi Zhou, Zheng Li

Summary: This study reveals the transcriptome changes in different testicular cell types of Klinefelter syndrome (KS) patients. Sertoli cells show the largest transcriptome changes in KS patients. Further research indicates that the loss of X-inactive-specific transcript (XIST) in Sertoli cells leads to an increase in X chromosome gene levels and disrupts their transcription pattern and cellular function. This phenomenon is not observed in other somatic cells. This study provides an important theoretical basis for explaining the heterogeneity of testicular atrophy in KS patients and subsequent related treatment.

Ipsilateral and contralateral patent processus vaginalis in pediatric patients with a unilateral nonpalpable testis

Ming-Ming Yu, Hua Xie, Yi-Chen Huang, Yi-Qing Lv, Fang Chen, Xiao-Xi Li

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the incidence of patent processus vaginalis (PPV) in pediatric patients with a unilateral nonpalpable testis and explore the associated factors. The study found that the incidence of ipsilateral PPV was significantly related to the side, development, and position of the testis, while it was independent of these factors on the contralateral side.

Genotype-phenotype correlations, surgical selections, and postoperative complications of 5α-reductase 2 deficiency in 69 children with hypospadias

Xu Wen, Li-Jun Fan, Wei-Ping Zhang, Xin Ni, Chun-Xiu Gong

Summary: This study analyzed the relationship between genotype-phenotype, surgical selections, and postoperative complications in patients with 5 alpha-reductase 2 deficiency. Preoperative hormone stimulation was found to have a positive effect on penile development, and certain mutations were associated with higher external masculinization scores and less severe hypospadias.

MiOXSYS® and OxiSperm® II assays appear to provide no clinical utility for determining oxidative stress in human sperm-results from repeated semen collections

Patience Castleton, Prabin Gyawali, Nicola Mathews, Shadrack Mulinge Mutuku, David James Sharkey, Nicole Olivia McPherson

Summary: This study found that the MiOXSYS(R) and OxiSperm(R) II systems for measuring sperm oxidative stress may have limited diagnostic potential. There were no significant associations between these systems and sperm function or oxidative stress. This may be due to limited understanding of their biochemistry and clinical application.
