Integrated transcriptomic and metabolomic analysis reveal the molecular and metabolic basis of flavonoids in Chinese sour jujube fruits in different harvest times

Summary: This study investigated the accumulation of flavonoids in Chinese sour jujube fruits from five different harvest times using a combined metabolomics and transcriptomics approach. A total of 1539 differentially accumulated metabolites (DAMs) and 11592 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified. The biosynthetic pathways for flavonoids, flavones, and flavanols were significantly enriched. A regulatory network for flavonoids biosynthesis was built and key genes related to flavonoid biosynthesis were identified.

Effect of climatic variables and pheromone trapping strategy on the capture of Cosmopolites sordidus in banana fallows

Summary: This study compares the effectiveness of two fallow trapping patterns and finds that internal trapping of fallow land can clean up plots twice as quickly as trapping surrounding the fallow land. Occurrence of leaf spot caused by Colletotrichum plurivorum on cowpea in Fujian Province, China

Summary: This study reports the occurrence of leaf spot disease caused by Colletotrichum plurivorum on cowpea plants in Pingnan prefecture, Fujian Province, China. The pathogen was identified based on morphological features and gene sequencing. Pathogenicity tests confirmed that the isolates of C. plurivorum could infect healthy cowpea leaves and induce leaf spot symptoms.

Study of stable sodium ion storage in porous carbon derived from puffball biomass

Characterization, properties and mechanism of composite synthesized Eucommia ulmoides rubber and epoxy resin for electromagnetic interference shielding application

Summary: The synthesis of electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding composites is an effective strategy to combat electromagnetic radiation pollution. In this study, Mn0.6Zn0.4Fe2O4 (MZF) and carbon black (CB) were added to a emulsion made of Eucommia ulmoides rubber (EUR) and epoxy resin (EP) to prepare the MZF/CB/PEUR (EP@EUR) composites. The uniform distribution of CB created a conductive network that facilitated dipole polarization and conduction losses. Additionally, the inclusion of MZF provided a shielding mechanism through natural resonance and enhancement of the conducting network, resulting in an optimized complex dielectric constant and a high-level resonance peak in the 8.2-12.4 GHz frequency range. By conducting a series of filler loading experiments, the optimal loading concentrations of CB (5%) and MZF (25%) were determined. Furthermore, the MZF/CB/PEUR composites exhibited excellent corrosion resistance in acid/alkali environments. These findings contribute to the development, application, and mechanism research of environment-friendly dielectric-magnetic EMI shielding composites using EUR as a matrix.

Characterization of an Arundo donax-based composite: A solution to improve indoor comfort

Summary: This study investigated the properties of Arundo donax as a building material and found that it has strong adaptability, high hygroscopicity, and unique sound absorption behavior. The mechanical tests also demonstrated the applicability of the Arundo donax-based composite. This opens up new possibilities for the further application of Arundo donax-based materials.

Summary: The effect of light spectra, particularly far-red and short wavelength radiation, on the growth and secondary metabolites of cannabis is significant. Altering the R:FR ratio can increase the concentration and yield of secondary metabolites, while short wavelength radiation does not significantly affect plant morphology and secondary metabolite concentrations.

A novel methodology for water-sensitive papers analysis focusing on the segmentation of overlapping droplets to better characterize deposition pattern

Summary: A novel methodology was proposed to analyze water-sensitive papers (WSPs) for evaluating spray quality. The segmentation of overlapping droplets based on concave point detection and ellipse fitting achieved high accuracy. A linear relationship between droplet density and coverage was observed, and simulated WSPs were generated for high coverage estimation. This approach allows for more accurate spray quality indicators from WSP collectors.

Preparation of high intensity transparent fluorescent corn husk and its detection of Fe3+

Revising economic injury levels for Lygus spp. in canola: The value of historical yield and insect data to improve decision making

Summary: This study updated the economic thresholds for Lygus spp., a major insect pest of canola in Canada, by integrating a large data set collected over 23 years. The results revealed that the economic injury level for Lygus was around 9-23 insects per 10 sweeps, while spraying a foliar insecticide was only necessary when Lygus catches exceeded 30 insects per 10 sweeps. Additionally, analysis of Precision Yield Data showed that at low abundances (under 17 insects per 10 sweeps), Lygus may potentially stimulate canola yield and do not require control action.

Efficacy of selected biopesticides on key pests of chilli pepper for increased productivity in Ghana

Summary: Chilli pepper is an important food and cash crop in Ghana, but its production and marketing are hindered by insect pests. This study evaluated the efficacy of five different biopesticides against major chilli pepper pests and found that Neemazal and Attack were more effective than the other three in controlling these pests.
