A novel all-solid-state potassium ion-selective electrode using graphene as the solid-contact layer was developed. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and reversed chronopotentiometry were employed to characterize the ion-to-electron transducing ability of graphene. The new electrode exhibited a Nernstian response of 58.4 mV/decade and a low detection limit of 10(-6.2) M. Potentiometric water layer test showed no water film formed between the solid-contact layer and the polymeric membrane. Furthermore, the developed electrode exhibited fast response, insensitive to oxygen and light, and excellent potential stability, which make it very promising for routine analysis and application.
