TiO2 rutile has attracted great interest since the successful intercalation at room temperature was reported using nanosized materials. Typically, the potential window of the rutile system is 1-3 V but the use of enlarged potential windows 0.5-3 V and 0.1-3 V leads to an excellent reversible capacity of similar to 315 mAh g(-1). This is comparable to graphite anodes but, in addition, the TiO2 rutile anode has a high rate capacity of similar to 196 mAh g(-1) at 5C.
