A heterometallic, heptadecanuclear cluster of formula [(Mn9Dy8O8)-Dy-III-O-III(OH)(8)(tea)(2)(teaH)(2)(teaH(2))(4)(Ac)(4)(NO3)(2)(H2O)(4)](NO3)(7)center dot 8H(2)O (1) is reported. The core of 1 displays two edge sharing (Mn5Dy5III)-Dy-III supertetrahedra and represents one of the largest Mn/4f cluster compound so far reported. Magnetic studies show that 1 displays probable SMM behaviour as observed via non-zero values in the chi(M)'' vs T plot.
