The dramatic decline of sea ice in the Arctic is opening up new shipping routes and other commercial opportunities from resource extraction to tourism. This expansion of human activities into higher latitudes will have serious effects on the Arctic wildlife already impacted by the regional climate changing more rapidly than the global average.
