The host ligand tris{4-(3-pyridyl)phenylester} cyclotriguaiacylene forms a 2-D hydrogen bonded network of 36 topology and the 2-D layers arrange in an inverted fashion to form host capsules; reaction of the same ligand with Ag(I) salts results in a 2-D coordination polymer of 63 topology which features an array of metallo-capsules.
