We investigated the physiological and biochemical differences between the phosphorus (P)-efficient soybean genotype Jindou33 and the P-inefficient soybean genotype Tiefeng3 grown under various P concentrations. When treated with different P concentrations, the P-efficient cultivar Jindou33 had a greater chlorophyll content. With a low P concentration, the soluble protein content of Jindou33 in the branching stage was greater than that of Tiefeng3. The phosphorus-efficient cultivar showed less fluctuation in the leaf P content when the P concentration was changed. When treated with different concentrations of P, Jindou33 showed greater superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and peroxidase (POD) activity as well as less fluctuation in the SOD and CAT activities when the P concentration was changed. When treated with various concentrations of P, the P-efficient cultivar had a lower content of malondialdehyde in the branching and blooming stages.
