This paper shows the appearance of horseshoes chaos on a buckled beam controlled by concentrated moments applied at suitable points. The distance between the stable and unstable manifolds of the control system are derived and analyzed taking into account the asymmetric characteristics of the potential brought by the control design. The structure of basin boundaries are obtained and confirmed by the analytical investigation. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
