General interest has been excited by slippery liquid-infused porous surface (SLIPS) due to its prominent performance in anti-fouling, anti-frosting and anti-icing fields. In this research, SLIPS is constructed via a facile three-step protocol. Firstly, Cu dendritic structure grows onto metal surface via electrochemical approaches, i.e., electrodeposition or galvanic replacement reaction. The as-formed metallic structure works as catalyst for carbon fiber growth by the means of chemical vapor deposition. Carbon fiber matrix behaves as a 3D sponge-like structure to reserve the lubricant, and SLIPS can be formed. Four metals including Cu, Cu/Al alloy, Al/Mg alloy and low alloy steel, act as the representatives to illustrate the universality of the protocol. In SLIPS, carbon fiber matrix has high affinity with lubricant, which cannot be replaced by water spontaneously in underwater environment. Compared with superhydrophobic carbon fiber, the SLIPS based on carbon fiber matrix and lubricant performs exceptional corrosion inhibition property. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
