Self assembly of one-dimensional nanoscale particle into functional 2D or 3D complex structures has stimulated a great deal of interest. In current work, using the hydrothermal method and adjust the molar ratio of H2C2O4 to Na2WO4 center dot 2H(2)O, uniform WO3 center dot H2O nanoplates and 3D hierarchical nanostructures were synthesized successfully. Furthermore, a novel growth mechanism is proposed in detail. In addition, the gas sensing of different morphologies were tested and comparised systematically. These investigations could be useful in helping assemble tungsten oxide nanoplates to complex structures.
