The synthesis, characterization and application of ascorbic acid-stabilized zero valent iron nanoparticles (AAS-ZVIN) for Cd (II) removal from aqueous solution were studied. The removal efficiency was investigated using central composite design under response surface methodology with consideration of four factors including the dosage of AAS-ZVIN, pH, contact time and initial Cd (II) concentration. The synthesized nanoparticles were highly stable and efficient for Cd (II) removal. The numerical optimization revealed that the optimum removal (79.68%) obtained at AAS-ZVIN dosage of 2 g L-1 initial Cd (II) concentration of 15 mg L-1, contact time of 60 min and pH of 7.
