Zinc 1,3,5-benzenetriphosphonates (ZBP) prepared in the presence of organic cations contain unique layers composed of inorganic ID chains bridged with benzene rings. ZBP showed intercalation and cation-exchange properties while retaining the layer structure, resembling layered metal phosphates rather than conventional layered phosphonates.
