By using alkanes and mercaptans as the nucleophiles with di-tert-butyl peroxide (DTBP) as the oxidant, I-2-catalyzed oxidative C(sp(3))-H/S-H coupling was achieved. This protocol provides a novel process to construct C(sp(3))-S bonds from commercially available hydrocarbons and mercaptans.
