Energy metabolism and obesity

Obesity is the end result of a mismatch between energy intake and energy expenditure. It remains unclear, however, whether obesity is due to excess energy intake or a reduction in energy expenditure. This article reviews the influence of energy expenditure on the cause of obesity.
