A reactive iron napthalene complex provides convenient access to the Cp*Fe- synthon (Cp*=C5Me5)

The complex [K(18-crown-6){Cp*Fe(eta(4)-C10H8)}] ( 1), which is readily available from easily accessible starting materials, represents a new, synthetically useful Cp*Fe- equivalent.
