Robust photocatalytic water reduction with cyclometalated Ir(III) 4-vinyl-2,2 '-bipyridine complexes

Novel [Ir(C boolean AND N)(2)(N boolean AND N)](+) complexes with N boolean AND N ligands containing vinyl groups were synthesized resulting in quintupled turn-over numbers for the photocatalytic hydrogen production compared to the analogous non-vinyl compounds.
