A new homoleptic diplatinum complex [Pt-2(GaCp*)(2)(mu (2)-GaCp*)(3)] (Cp* = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) exhibiting a central unit of two platinum atoms coordinated by five Cp*Ga groups acting as terminal as well as bridging ligands, was synthesized by the reaction of tris(ethylene)platinum(0) with an excess of (Cp*Ga)(6) and was characterized by structural and quantum chemical methods.
