A novel sonochemical method for the preparation of nanophasic sulfides: Synthesis of HgS and PbS nanoparticles

HgS and PbS nanoparticles of about 15 and 20 nm in size have been prepared by the sonochemical irradiation of an ethylenediamine solution of elemental S and mercury acetate or lead acetate under air. The nanoparticles are characterized using techniques such as transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, absorption spectroscopy, diffuse reflection spectroscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis.
