Localized corrosion behavior of UNS S30403 type stainless steel was studied by cyclic polarization scans. scratch tests and Contact Electric Resistance (CER) technique in simulated paper-mill environments at pH 3 or 5 (55 or 65 degrees C) containing varying amounts of chloride, sulfate and thiosulfate. Polarization scans, scratch tests and CER technique gave similar results on thiosulfate related pitting and crevice corrosion. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
