A new heptadentate tripodal ligand leading to a gadolinium complex with an improved relaxation efficiency

The new heptadentate tripodal ligand tpaa containing three pyridinecarboxylate binding units reacts with Cd(III) in water to give a thermodynamically stable complex which displays high relaxivity.
