Induced assembly of a catenated chain of edge-sharing silver(I) dodecahedra with embedded acetylide by silver(II)-tmc (tmc=1,4,8,11-tetramethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane)

In the mixed-valent complex [Ag-II(tmc)(BF4)][Ag-6(I)(C-2)(CF3CO2)(5)(H2O)].H2O, a [Ag-II(tmc)(BF4)](+1)(infinity) cationic column induces the assembly of a novel, anionic zigzag chain constructed from edge-sharing of silver(i) triangulated dodecahedra each enclosing a C-2(2-) species.
