Update on the etiologies and management of neonatal cholestasis

This article gives an overview of the causes of neonatal cholestasis, defined as a marked impairment in bile flow. A brief overview of the determinants of bile flow assists in the analysis of clinical and laboratory parameters of cholestasis. It is only by having a firm grasp of the various causes that a practitioner can optimize his or her diagnostic approach and therapeutic management of cholestatic infants.
