We have successfully fabricated novel MAX phase/c-BN composite materials, which have the potential to improve significantly on current grinding and cutting materials. The synthesis conditions include elevated temperatures and moderate pressure, which allows for good bonding of the carrier to the abrasive. Preliminary results show that MAX phase ceramics offer outstanding benefits as carrier materials for c-BN abrasive particles. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l. All rights reserved.
