Core-shell polystyrene/zeolite A microbeads were prepared by a combination of layer-by-layer (LbL) and hydrothermal synthesis techniques. The LbL self-assembly technique was employed for the deposition of multilayer zeolite A coatings on negatively charged polystyrene microbeads. The pretreated beads were then subjected to hydrotheramal treatment with a zeolite A precursor gel. During the hydrothermal treatment the adsorbed nanoseeds induced the formation of a continuous well-intergrown zeolite film. The core-shell polystyrene/zeolite A beads were characterized by different techniques.
