Assessment is the driving force behind any good training programme. It has many purposes which include: a diagnostic role to highlight trainee strengths and weaknesses, a means of acknowledging the achievement certain standard of performance, a measure of the effectiveness of training. Key concepts in assessment that need be understood are standards, validity and reliability.
