The microstructure of WC-10%Co nanocomposite prepared by high energy ball milling was investigated by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The WC phase was refined to a grain size of 11 nm after milling. The dislocation density in WC was high and caused severe lattice distortion. Dislocations with Burgers vector 1/3[1 (2) over bar 1 0] were identified in some areas. (C) 2003 Published by Elsevier Ltd. on behalf of Acta Materialia Inc.
