1.Critical thermal maxima (CTmax), critical thermal minima (CTmin) and oxygen consumption rate of four-month-old adult Macrobrachium rosenbergii (38 +/- 3.1 g) were measured after acclimating to 3 preset temperatures (25degreesC, 30degreesC and 35degreesC) for 30 days. 2. CTmax and CTmin were 40.73 +/- 0.16degreesC, 41.06 +/- 0.17degreesC, 41.96 +/- 0.17degreesC and 14.9 +/- 0.13degreesC, 15.4 +/- 0.14degreesC, 16.98 +/- 0.21degreesC, respectively, and were significantly different (p<0.05). 3. Rate of oxygen consumption with increasing acclimation temperatures were 2.11 +/- 0.11, 2.95 +/- 0.13, 3.36 +/- 0.11 mg O-2 kg(-1) h(-1) at three different temperatures and were significantly different (p<0.05). 4. The thermal tolerance polygon for the specified temperatures was calculated as 255degreesC(2). (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
