Effect of SO2 on an activated carbon fiber-supported V2O5 (V2O5/ACF) for the low temperature (120-200 degrees C) selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 is studied using a transient method, FT-IR and MS. Results show that SO2 can significantly promote V2O5/ACF's SCR activity when the V2O5 loading is lower than 5 wt%. The promoting of SO2 may be attributed to the sulfate species formed on the surface of V2O5/ACF catalyst, which can increase the surface acidity and NH3 adsorption. (C) 2009 Elsevier B. V.
