Aerobic oxidation of alkyl arenes to the corresponding carbonyl compounds was developed using a combined catalytic system consisting of N-hydroxy phthalimide and silica supported cobalt(II) tetrasulfophthalocyanine at 80 degrees C. The supported Na(4)[CoTSPc] can be recycled and reused for five runs without any significant loss of catalytic activity. (c) 2008 Published by Elsevier B.V.
