The sintering behavior of fine and coarse ceria (CeO2) powders was examined by monitoring the continuous shrinkage of a compact body from 30 to 1700 degreesC in air. The accelerated sintering behavior of a fine powder was related with oxygen release from CeO2 at 700-800 degreesC and > 1600 degreesC. (C) 2003 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
