Photoactivities of TiO2 film electrodes formed in the flame of a burner fed with various gas mixtures were examined both under a relatively intense near UV light and under simulated solar illumination. The most significant shift of the spectral photoresponse (up to 425 nm) and the largest solar light induced photocurrents were observed for the TiO2 films grown in the reductive zone of a propane/butane-oxygen flame. The photoelectrochemical characteristics of the electrodes largely changed with the preparation conditions. Raman spectra revealed the presence of disordered carbon in the flame-formed samples in addition to lower nonstoichiometric titanium oxides identified by XRD. (C) 2004 The Electrochemical Society.
