A new method for determination of ascorbic acid using gas chromatography was developed and compared to the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) one. The analysis was performed after simple clean up techniques and a freeze drying step. Total ascorbic acid was analyzed after reduction of dehydroascorbic acid by dithiothreitol as in some HPLC methods. These conditions can be employed only for ascorbic acid or for multi-compound assay. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
