Highly oriented ZnO ordered pore arrays (films) were electrochemically deposited on Au/Si substrate based on colloidal monolayer template. Such oriented porous film has a preferential orientation along c-axis and shows strong and steady ultraviolet photoluminescence at room temperature, accompanied by a much weaker visible emission. This is in contrast to the randomly oriented film on ITO-glass substrate, which shows both weak ultraviolet and relatively strong visible luminescence. The growth of preferential orientation for such film on Au/Si substrate was attributed to the oriented substrate which leads to formation of oriented ZnO nuclei. (c) 2005 The Electrochemical Society.
