Novel 1,3-dithiolan-2-ones using sodium alpha-cyanoketene dithiolates

A novel and efficient method for the synthesis of 1,3-dithiolan-2-ones using sodium a-cyanoketene dithiolates and monochloroacetic acid as starting components is described.
