MgO/TiO2/SiO2 coated LiCoO2 has been successfully prepared as a cathode material for lithium-ion batteries. A thin layer of LiCo1-x-y-zMgxTiySizO2 solid solution was identified at the surface of LiCoO2, which helped to improve the cycle-reversibility, overcharge stability, thermal stability, and to lower impedance of the test lithium-ion battery.
