This paper describes work related to Konrad G. Weil's research interests while a visiting scholar in the Pickering Laboratory at Penn State University in the period, 1991-2003. Specifically, this paper describes the role of IR voltage in (i) causing corrosion attack and hydrogen evolution and absorption inside crevices in iron, and (ii) increasing the lifetime of environmentally friendly electroplates used for corrosion prevention. I is the current flowing in a cavity's (e.g., crevice's) electrolyte and R is the resistance of this electrolyte path.
